Secondary & Advanced Learning
Preparing Uganda's most innovative, entrepreneurially resilient and globally competitive secondary school graduates — through Great Lakes High School's world-class sciences education and the pioneering I-LISTENS Innovation Paradigm.
Why CHIFCOD Secondary Education
Where Academic Excellence Meets Real-World Enterprise
At CHIFCOD Christian Foundation, secondary education is where the academic foundations built in primary school are transformed into real-world capability. Great Lakes High School (GLHS) — CHIFCOD's flagship secondary campus in Katete Sub-county, Kanungu District — has for over twenty years been the universal sciences school of Kanungu District, producing graduates who enter university not just with qualifications, but with personal economic independence and entrepreneurial confidence.Great Lakes High School is the proud pioneer of the I-LISTENS Innovation Paradigm — the Inter-disciplinary Livelihood-based Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Skill model that has redefined what secondary education can achieve in Uganda and across Africa. From a 14-kilometre gravity-fed irrigation scheme to the Jungle Buddies Coffee enterprise, GLHS is not just a school — it is a living, breathing innovation laboratory.

Day & Boarding O and A Level
Great Lakes High School offers both Ordinary Level (S1–S4) and Advanced Level (S5–S6) education as a day and boarding school. Situated at the edge of the western Rift Valley in Katete Sub-county, Kanungu District, GLHS has earned its position as the leading sciences school in the district through consistently excellent student performance, dedicated teachers and deeply supportive parents.
Pioneer of the I-LISTENS Paradigm
Great Lakes High School is the proud innovator of the Inter-disciplinary Livelihood-based Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Skill (I-LISTENS) Innovation Paradigm. This model integrates rigorous academic sciences with practical entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, technology application and livelihood skills — ensuring every graduate is equipped to create economic value from the moment they leave school.
Rift Valley Ecological Setting
GLHS occupies a unique ecological niche at the edge of the western Rift Valley, where Kirenzi Mountains rise like a high wall to the south-west of the campus. This dramatic natural setting is not just a backdrop — it is a classroom. The dropping altitude from the highlands into the rift valley inspired GLHS to build a 14-kilometre gravity-fed irrigation scheme in 2007, drawing from River Karengye to water school crops and the Jungle Buddies Coffee farms.
The I-LISTENS Innovation Paradigm Explained
The I-LISTENS paradigm — Inter-disciplinary, Livelihood-based, Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Skill innovation — is CHIFCOD's most distinctive educational contribution to Uganda and the African continent. Pioneered at Great Lakes High School and now being rolled out across all CHIFCOD campuses and the upcoming Jungle Professor Rendezvous Africa Center in Kampala, I-LISTENS transforms the traditional classroom into a dynamic, real-world innovation engine.
Under I-LISTENS, students do not merely study science — they apply it. They do not merely learn about entrepreneurship — they practise it. Every subject is taught through the lens of its practical application to livelihoods, community development and global economic participation. The result is graduates who are not waiting for jobs — they are creating them.
Subjects are taught in connection with each other — science informs agriculture, mathematics drives enterprise, geography shapes environmental stewardship.
Every lesson is anchored in real livelihoods — from coffee farming and irrigation engineering to livestock management and community enterprise.
Rigorous science and technology education equips students to compete nationally and globally while solving locally relevant challenges.
Students develop business thinking, enterprise management and economic independence — ensuring every A level graduate enters university financially capable.
Practical vocational and innovation skills are embedded alongside academic learning, producing graduates who are immediately productive contributors to Uganda's economy.
A Living Learning Laboratory
Jungle Buddies Coffee
Student-managed coffee farms irrigated by GLHS's 14km gravity-fed scheme from River Karengye. Jungle Buddies Coffee is a real commercial enterprise that teaches students agribusiness, quality control and market access from the school campus.
14km Gravity-Fed Irrigation
Pioneered in 2007, GLHS's gravity-fed irrigation scheme harnesses the natural altitude drop from the highlands into the Rift Valley — channelling River Karengye over 14 kilometres to irrigate school crops and farms without a single pump or electricity cost.
School Farm & Livestock
From rabbits to majestic Friesian dairy cows, the GLHS campus is a working farm and living laboratory. Students engage in livestock management, dairy production and animal husbandry as part of their practical science and entrepreneurship curriculum.
Economic Independence Program
GLHS has championed a transformational program under which every A level graduate attains personal economic independence before entering university — combining savings discipline, enterprise income and vocational skills into a structured pathway to financial self-reliance.
From O Level to A Level — A Complete Secondary Journey
A rigorous Ordinary Level curriculum with a sciences focus, taught through the I-LISTENS innovation paradigm. Students in S1–S4 at Great Lakes High School develop analytical thinking, scientific curiosity and practical entrepreneurship skills — building the strongest possible foundation for advanced study and real-world contribution.
Learn MoreAdvanced Level sciences at GLHS combines academic depth with CHIFCOD's signature economic independence program — ensuring every S6 graduate enters university not just with excellent grades, but with personal financial capability, enterprise skills and the entrepreneurial resilience to thrive in any environment.
