Great Lakes High School is located in the rift valley in Katete Sub-county Kanungu District. GLHS is a day and boarding O and A level school that has sustained its place as the universal sciences school of Kanungu District. Great Lakes High School is the proud innovator of the Inter-disciplinary Livelihood-based Science, Technology Entrepreneurship and Skill innovation paradigm. In its twenty-year history, GLHS has made CHIFCOD and Kigezi region proud with its impressive campus and star teachers, supportive parents and consistently excellent student performance.
In terms of its ecological niche, Great Lakes High School is situated in a unique spot where the edge of the western rift valley starts with Kirenzi Mountains the northmost that closes the earlier described SWHAEZ looking and feeling like a high wall in the south west of the school. IN 2007, Great Lakes High School championed the exploitation of the dropping altitude from the highlands into the rift valley, to create a 14 kilometer gravity fed irrigation scheme which feeds of River Karengye to irrigate the school crops and coffee farms where the Jungle Buddies Coffee is grown. The school is learning laboratory with livestock as small as rabbits and as large as majestic Friesian cows that give energy, milk and beauty to the campus and its community. Great Lakes High School has championed a program under which every A level graduate will attain personal economic independence as they enter university.
