Kirima Parents Primary School (KPPS)

KPPS has been serving western Uganda’s a center for innovation and academic excellence since 1994. It is located in western Ward, Kanungu Town Council, 2 kilometers along the road from Kanungu Town to Kihihi Town. KPPS is among the pioneer parents’ primary schools in Kigezi which championed result oriented education. These schools coordinated the investment synergy of parents and teachers to provide overflow educational facilities. Parents’ school made all the difference in post-war rural Uganda when government institutions were struggling to provide quality education in the face of a school population-explosion that witnessed a surge from 2 to 7 million pupils who enrolled in primary schools country wide. This was a result of the launching of the government sponsored Universal Primary Education in 1996. KPPS has been a transformational hub from child family and community enterprise development with thousands of her graduates now serving in professional positions in on all sectors of the economy.

Regarding the most compelling area natural features, the school is located just 2kilometer away from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and children are rich with stories of Bwindi Foret animals living alongside people. In the year 2023 an ape that has been suspected to be a chimpanzee showed up at Kirima Parents’ Primary School and caused a lot of excitement before it found its way back to the Bwindi Forest thankfully without being harmed or causing harm. A 2025 Uganda Wildlife Authority chimpanzee census has concluded that up to 425 chimpanzees have their home in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, around Kazuru Village just 45 minutes’ walk from KPPS. It could well be one of these that paid a courtesy call on KPPS in early 2023.

Water falls are also a unique feature of the well drenched Bwindi highlands as rivers and streams roll down to the Lake Victoria through Lake Edward, and the Kazinga channel, which feeds River Katonga. Only in the year 2025 did KPPS pupils on a nature walk discover the amazing Migyera Cascades around which many moral stories have been told. Within an hour’s walk, a nature study class of KPPS can view a spectacular waterfall that contributes to the source of the famous River Nile.
